Android 17 on Pixel with Some Setbacks: Touch Goes Haywire and Scrolling is Reversed

The update to Android 17, now out of beta and available for most of the Google Pixel range, has not only brought the expected innovations but also a series of unexpected technical defects. Several reports on Reddit describe an anomalous behavior of the touch screen, which seriously compromises interaction with the interface. In particular, many Pixel owners, starting from the series 7 up to the latest models, report recurring issues during page scrolling.

The malfunction manifests in different ways: some users report that the device interprets the upward scroll command as a downward movement, while others experience a total interruption of touch response, presenting in almost cyclic patterns. This situation has been documented on Android Authority, confirming that the defect is closely linked to the installation of the new operating system.

While waiting for a definitive official intervention, the community has started sharing some empirical solutions. One method that seems to have resolved the problem for several users involves disabling the “triple tap to zoom” function found in the accessibility settings. This suggestion supports the hypothesis that Android 17 is misinterpreting the triple input, creating a conflict in the touch command reception pipeline.

An official Google account has also suggested intervening on the Pixel Launcher, advising users to clear the cache of the application. This can be done by going to Settings, selecting Apps, locating the Pixel Launcher, and acting on the Storage and cache option.

The touch bug is not an isolated case. The debut of Android 17 is proving particularly troubled for the Pixel ecosystem, with reports including the sudden disappearance of widgets, instability in 5G connectivity, and fluctuating Wi-Fi performance. Despite the company confirming that it is aware of the issues, the status of the ticket on the official bug reporting portal remains stuck on “no update”.

At the moment, the post-update user experience appears extremely fragmented. While a large portion of users report no serious issues compared to the previous version, a group of Pixel owners is managing significant operational compromises, making the experience with Android 17, so far, far from the expected stability.
