Keepa and Similar Tools: Be Cautious

There are websites like Keepa that track the price of individual ASINs over time. Not the single product, but the single ASIN! The difference is significant. An ASIN, which almost always starts with B0, for example, B09B8RF4PY, is a unique code for a single item uploaded to the store by a specific seller at a specific time.

Very few products have the same ASIN throughout: one such example is the Echo Dot 5th Generation in blue. In this case, Keepa provides an accurate overview. That ASIN always corresponds to the Echo Dot 5th Generation in blue. Unfortunately, making mistakes with other products is very easy. In Amazon's catalog, there are tons of identical products with different ASINs, one for each seller offering it, each with its own graph and price trends on Keepa.
