Qualcomm Could Launch 6 Versions of the New Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6

In a few months, likely in September, Qualcomm will present its first 2 nm chip, made by TSMC. The new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will be available in two versions, a base variant and a Pro variant.

This is not entirely new: the dual-chip strategy has been confirmed by various rumors in recent months. However, according to a new report, Qualcomm may be working on as many as 6 variants of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.

Qualcomm's Choice

Qualcomm is expected to produce not just two variants of its new 2 nm chip but a total of 6 variants. For OEMs, it will be possible to choose whether to opt for a variant with support for LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 memory. Additionally, there will also be variations in CPU and GPU clock speeds.

Based on the data released, the total combinations will be six. This strategy will allow Qualcomm to expand its range, enabling OEMs to select the right chip while finding the right balance between costs, performance, and support for new technologies.

A smartphone manufacturer looking to go for the best possible solution can then choose the Pro variant with full support for the new memory standards and the ability to leverage higher operating frequencies. Another manufacturer, looking to keep costs down, may opt for the base version of the SoC, sacrificing some power to reduce component costs. This information will need to be confirmed in the coming months as Qualcomm's SoCs are just over two months away from debuting.
