Honor X80 Pro Max Official: Is 11,000 mAh of Battery and a 10,000 Nit Display Enough for You?

Honor has launched the X80 Pro Max in China, the latest addition to the X series designed to push battery life to the extreme. As hinted by the official teasers, the phone features an 11,000 mAh battery, the largest ever installed by the brand on a smartphone, and pairs this energy achievement with a display that claims up to 10,000 nits of peak brightness. Powering it all is Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, built on a 4-nanometer process.

The fourth generation cell in Honor's Qinghai Lake series boasts up to 42 days of standby time. To demonstrate its endurance, the company has secured a Guinness World Record for the longest continuous livestream conducted by a smartphone, clocking in at over 26 hours without interruption. Wired charging reaches 90W, while reverse charging (27W) allows the phone to be used as a power bank for other devices.

The OLED panel measures 6.8 inches with a resolution of 2788 x 1280 pixels and a refresh rate that dynamically ranges between 60 and 120Hz. Honor has also included PWM dimming at 3840Hz, useful for reducing perceived flickering at low brightness levels, and minimized bezels to about 1.3mm for a cleaner front.

It's worth noting that the peak of 10,000 nits is tied to specific usage conditions and does not represent sustained brightness in everyday use.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 works alongside LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, with Android 16 and the MagicOS 10 interface managing the software. Honor has added AI-based features like AI Outdoor Mode and AI Grip Control, while biometric security comes from a short-range fingerprint sensor integrated into the display.

The camera setup relies on a 50-megapixel rear sensor with optical stabilization and a CIPA 6.0 system, complemented by an 8-megapixel front camera. The body boasts IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K certifications for dust, immersion, and water jet resistance, along with a five-star SGS rating for drop resistance. Honor aims to position the phone as a rugged device suitable for prolonged outdoor use.

The X80 Pro Max debuts in China in four configurations: 8GB+128GB at 1,999 yuan (about 260 euros), 8GB+256GB at 2,199 yuan (about 285 euros), 8GB+512GB at 2,499 yuan (about 325 euros), and 12GB+512GB at 2,799 yuan (about 360 euros). There are four available colors: Lightning Red, Vibrant Orange, Moon Shadow White, and Mystic Black. Honor has not yet confirmed an international launch for the model.

Compared to the 10,000 nits, which I believe remains theoretical, the improvement in energy capacity is more verifiable: an 11,000 mAh battery combined with 90W charging shifts the focus towards battery life, a territory where the brand is building an entire family of products designed for users who rely on their smartphones all day without easy access to a charger. We await information regarding the launch in Western markets.
