GTA V: free upgrade to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for PS4 and Xbox One users

Rockstar Games has announced a new feature for players of Grand Theft Auto V, although it is not the eagerly awaited information about Grand Theft Auto VI. Starting from June 18, owners of GTA V on PlayStation 4 and the digital version for Xbox One will be able to upgrade for free to the editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

This initiative represents a significant change from the policy adopted in the past. When the version for the current generation consoles was launched in March 2022, the upgrade was indeed available for a fee. With this new decision, Rockstar allows users to access the features introduced on the newer platforms at no additional cost.

The versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S include several technical and performance improvements. These include superior visual quality, enhanced performance, and improved response times. The company also highlights a greater speed in switching between the three main protagonists in the story mode, one of the optimizations most appreciated by players.

GTA V, the free upgrade, and the continuity of the experience

Another important aspect concerns the continuity of the gaming experience. Users who upgrade will be able to transfer their saved games and progress accumulated in GTA Online, thus avoiding the loss of achievements gained over the years.

PC players will also benefit from a similar offer. Rockstar has confirmed that anyone who owns an earlier version of the game on computer will be able to switch for free to the Enhanced edition, introduced last year. In addition to the improvements present in the current-generation console versions, this edition includes exclusive features for PC, such as ray tracing ambient occlusion and global illumination based on the same technology.

In the meantime, the community's attention remains focused on Grand Theft Auto VI. According to reports, Rockstar seems determined to maintain the release date set for November 19, while the parent company Take-Two has announced an intensification of the marketing campaign during the summer.
