ChatGPT Launches Scheduled Tasks: Unified Management of Automations and Up to 15 Active Tasks for Pro Users
OpenAI has added a dedicated section to ChatGPT, Scheduled Tasks, which gathers all of the user's scheduled tasks in one place on the sidebar. From there, users can pause, resume, modify, or delete each automation without having to trace back to the original conversation.
There are two types of activities that can be managed this way: scheduled tasks can be set for a specific time or for a broader window (morning, afternoon, evening), while monitoring tasks work differently, with ChatGPT performing web searches and checking connected apps, sending a notification to the user only when there is something new to report, without the background noise of redundant updates. This latter category also integrates with ChatGPT Health and Finance: a concrete example is receiving an update on the stock portfolio after the markets close.
Limits for Tiers and Technical Constraints
The number of active tasks simultaneously varies based on the plan: 3 for Go users, 5 for Plus, and 15 for Pro, Business, and Enterprise. The maximum execution frequency is once every hour; unused tasks can automatically go on pause after a period of inactivity. In terms of limitations, scheduled tasks do not currently support webhooks, making them more suitable for recurring periodic checks than for event-triggered workflows.
The Retirement of Pulse
The launch coincides with the announcement of the phasing out of Pulse, the feature that, until today, provided personalized daily briefings built on past conversations, memory, and user interests. OpenAI will remove Pulse by July 1st; Pro users will have access to the service for an additional 14 days.
In the decommissioning note, the company explains that after introducing tasks within the Pulse interface, it observed a strong engagement with that functionality, interpreting it as a signal that users appreciate a dedicated space for proactive work. Thus, the decision to consolidate everything under Scheduled Tasks and close Pulse.
The new section is available on web and mobile for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Go plans.
