End of ADSL for WindTre: Migration to New Networks Continues

WindTre has announced a fourth technological migration plan for 2026 aimed at fixed-line customers using ADSL connections. The operator plans to start this new phase from August 25, 2026, with the goal of progressively transferring involved users to FTTC technology, that is, Mixed Fiber Copper.

This initiative is part of the operator's long-term modernization path, which began replacing traditional copper networks as early as April 2023, progressively introducing solutions in FTTC, FT GIS, FTTH, or FWA. Subsequently, starting in December 2024, the deactivation of fixed ULL lines connected to phasing-out copper exchanges was executed, in cases where transitioning to more modern technologies was not possible.

Throughout 2026, several phases will occur: the first plan started on April 26, 2026, ending on July 28, 2026; a second is scheduled from June 25 to August 27, 2026, while the third will begin on July 25 and end on September 27, 2026.

The transition to Fiber To The Cabinet technology requires the use of an updated terminal. Customers affected by this specific reshaping will receive personalized communication within the Telephone Account issued in June 2026. The process does not involve changes to the phone number, which remains unchanged, and keeps the monthly flat fee intact. The total cost includes the amortized price of the new compatible modem, set at 5.99 euros per month for a duration of 48 months. The device is shipped free of charge via courier, and the line upgrade is activated without the need for technical intervention inside the home.

The migration plan is linked to the phasing out of copper infrastructures operated by FiberCop. WindTre justified the operation with technical and managerial requirements related to network evolution. Old ADSL activations have been blocked since March 21, 2022, while traditional copper phone line marketing with the Voice Plus tariff ended on July 1, 2024.

Current regulations allow consumers who do not wish to accept the contractual modification to request free cancellation or switch to a different operator. The completion of this fourth migration phase for the affected customer base is expected by October 27, 2026, in the Italian market.
