The Radeon RX 9070 XT Appears on Steam and Targets the RTX 5080

The AMD Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards based on RDNA 4 architecture have finally made their appearance in the Steam Hardware Survey, several months after their commercial debut. The data from May 2026 shows the entry of the main GPUs from the range into the statistics collected by Valve, which gives us a clearer picture of their distribution among the users of the Steam platform for the first time.

The protagonist is the Radeon RX 9070 XT, the flagship model of the series launched in March 2025. The card debuts in the rankings with a share of 1.33% according to the latest survey updates, a result that immediately positions it among the most widespread gaming GPUs present in Valve's database.

This figure is particularly significant considering that the RX 9070 XT had been absent from the statistics for almost a year, despite strong sales recorded at numerous retailers. Its share also places it close to NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5080, which is credited with a presence of around 1.47% among the systems surveyed by Steam.

Additionally, the Radeon RX 9060 XT enters the survey for the first time with a share of 0.72%. This figure pertains to the model as a whole, without distinguishing between the versions equipped with 8 and 16 GB of video memory. Lower down the rankings is the Radeon RX 9070, which is reported at 0.18%. This is not surprising; we noted in the review that the price proximity to the more powerful RX 9070 XT made it seem 'already dead' upon arrival.

Is AMD on the verge of overtaking? The new Steam Survey should worry Intel. Overall, the Steam landscape continues to be dominated by NVIDIA GPUs. The GeForce RTX 3060 holds the top position with a share of about 4%, followed by the desktop and laptop versions of the RTX 4060. The newer GeForce RTX 5070, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5060 Ti continue to gain ground month after month.

AMD is also facing an issue related to the hardware classification adopted by Steam. Various generic entries identified as 'AMD Radeon Graphics' or 'AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics' appear among the top spots in the rankings, which could include systems with integrated graphics or configurations not properly recognized by the Steam client. This aspect complicates the assessment of the actual distribution of individual models in the Radeon range.
