The Elder Scrolls 6: Development Continues, Xbox Assures That the Project 'Is Progressing Well'
Despite its absence from the recent Xbox Games Showcase 2026, The Elder Scrolls 6 remains one of the most anticipated titles for role-playing game enthusiasts. During an interview with Variety, Xbox's content head, Matt Booty, addressed fan expectations and the challenges of balancing the desire to showcase new projects with the need to wait for the right moment to present them to the public.
According to Booty, those involved in productions of this level must carefully choose when to reveal a game. The goal is to offer a presentation that represents the best of the project and conveys to players the feeling that the launch is not too far off.
The executive also confirmed that he visited the Bethesda studios and personally saw The Elder Scrolls 6 in action alongside director Todd Howard. While not going into details, he described the title as very promising, emphasizing that development is progressing positively. He reiterated that a complete presentation will come only when the team feels it is the right time.
The Elder Scrolls 6 is Still in Development
Bethesda continues to work on the game using the Creation Engine 3. Previously, Todd Howard explained that a large portion of the studio's resources is currently dedicated to the project. At the end of 2025, he stated that development was progressing well, although he did not provide indications on a possible release date.
The wait for the new chapter has become particularly long, considering that it has been eight years since the initial announcement. In the meantime, fans have been able to return to the world of Tamriel thanks to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, released last year. However, some technical issues and limited post-launch support have left part of the community dissatisfied.
For now, we can only wait for new official communications from Bethesda and Xbox, hoping that the next showcase will finally provide a more in-depth look at one of the most anticipated games of the last decade.
