Logitech G PRO X2 Superstrike: FPS Players Can't Go Back

When Logitech announced the G Pro X2 Superstrike, my first thought was that it was just a simple update of its reference gaming mouse. However, I was rather surprised during the presentation. This wasn't the 'usual' G Pro X, but a completely new iteration. After all, the name makes it clear; it’s an X2 and not an X or a Pro 2, so we are talking about a completely renewed product.

Certainly, the design faithfully replicates that of the Pro X Superlight 2; the dimensions are exactly the same, not even 1 mm of difference. The same goes for the weight, 61 grams for both models. But, while on the outside – if it weren’t for the colors – we could say it’s the exact same mouse, it’s on the inside that everything changes.

The G Pro X2 Superstrike made me give up on infinite scroll, a feature I hadn’t been able to distance myself from for over 10 years. Let me be clear, I still miss it, and especially in a professional context, I believe it is a real boon. However, since I hardly ever need to edit photos or videos, I managed to compensate with a little extra effort. Why? Simple, as we will see in the review, the G Pro X2 Superstrike offers feedback that I can no longer do without.

Packaging and Design

I won’t dwell too much on the design, which, as mentioned, remains unchanged from the G Pro X Superlight. What changes is mostly the “livery”: black right and left buttons with the “Pro X2” logo under the wheel repeated for both, the “X2” nicely prominent on the left side near the side buttons, and the word “Superstrike” on the right side.

Inside the package, we have similar accessories to those of the predecessor: the mouse, a Type-A USB dongle for wireless connection with an extension, a USB-A to USB-C cable for charging and wired connection, a second cover with an extra foot to increase friction, an anti-scratch cloth, and a set of pre-cut grips with 3M adhesive to enhance grip.

Unfortunately, the cable isn’t low-friction or particularly flexible, but a simple rubber cable that isn’t the most comfortable for wired usage. Nevertheless, it must also be said that using it with a cable is highly discouraged as it inevitably limits the mouse's performance; thus, while functional, it should be understood exclusively as a charging cable.

The touch and feel are excellent: thanks to extremely solid plastic materials, the mouse gives a remarkable sense of sturdiness. Moreover, the molded design perfectly follows the shape of the hand. It’s not a so-called “ergonomic mouse,” but the comfort is surprising. On the other hand, the dimensions are unchanged compared to the G Pro X Superlight 2, so if you appreciated the latter, you will feel at home even with the G Pro X2 Superstrike.

On the bottom, we only find the power button. Like its predecessor, the G Pro X2 Superstrike does not have Bluetooth connectivity. Perhaps we would have preferred a switch dedicated to changing profiles, but this would have affected the weight, which is the priority for these models.

In conclusion, an essential peripheral in appearance and functionality that appeals to competitive and professional FPS gamers. It goes without saying that if you are enthusiasts of MMOs or MOBAs, this is certainly not the most suitable peripheral even if it manages to serve the purpose.

A New Performance Experience

Let’s get to the heart of this review: the primary objective of the new Logitech mouse is performance. A field in which the G Pro X2 Superstrike truly faces very few rivals and, from a certain point of view, none at all.

As mentioned earlier, the peripheral features three groundbreaking technologies for the gaming mouse segment: analog switches, haptic motors, and electromagnetic sensors. A combination that completely revolutionizes the 'click' experience from every angle and that I appreciated much more than I expected.

Let's start with the haptic motors, which are responsible for tactile feedback and are influenced by personal taste. The reason is simple: there’s no real 'click,' so the mouse is rather silent. In fact, when the mouse is off, the right and left buttons sink into 'void.' If you love auditory feedback, you might be disappointed in this regard. Also, as we will see later, the microswitches have been completely replaced by a technology called HITS.

However, even in this case, in my opinion, the lack of auditory feedback is abundantly compensated by the tactile feedback. The haptic motors are adjustable on 6 levels, with the first completely excluding feedback.

What’s interesting is the calibration: the motors do not give the sensation of a vibration as one might expect, but that of a real mechanical switch under the fingers. This applies to all levels, from the lowest (1) to the highest (6), which provides a very decisive feedback without ever feeling 'like a controller.'

Let’s move on to the analog switches that, in essence, allow you to set the level of pressure needed to send the input. Unlike analog switches on keyboards that provide 0.1 mm intervals, Logitech allows adjustment of the actuation point on 10 levels, which are more than sufficient (after all, the travel distance of mouse buttons is significantly shorter). However, the adjustment does not only impact distance but also the force to be applied to the button.

This allows for meticulous adjustment of the click to your personal parameters and adapting it to your fingers, literally. This means a drastic reduction in unintentional presses and absolute precision.

The results are immediately evident and easily noticeable in competitive games. For example, in Counter-Strike 2, I completely forgot about knife stabs or unintentional shots at the start of a round – I’m sure it happens to you too. At the same time, every shot is completely under control; the risk of a double click that would inadvertently increase recoil is gone.

In fact, perhaps this is the most significant feeling that truly highlights the difference compared to any other offering: the mouse under your fingers no longer transmits that perception of a tool but rather of a true extension of the hand. It is very difficult to explain this with words, but the feedback returned by the G Pro X2 Superstrike is completely different from that of a traditional gaming mouse.

All of this combines perfectly with the HITS sensors, that is, the electromagnetic sensors that replace microswitches. It is essentially a technology equivalent to that of analog keyboards or more commonly defined as 'Hall Effect.'

Input is not registered by a mechanical action but by the potential difference of a conductor influenced by a magnetic field. In simple terms, voltage is measured, and based on its variation, input is sent. Moving everything is an updated Hero sensor capable of reaching a resolution of 44,000 DPI. The acceleration reaches 88 G while the maximum speed is 888 IPS.

What changes? Reliability, precision, considerably higher longevity of the system compared to a traditional switch subject to mechanical wear, and, of course, the ability to adjust the actuation point.

Sure, this won't make you professional gamers overnight, but it ensures a wider margin for improvement compared to a traditional mouse. You can perceive the increased control over the peripheral, making it easier to feel comfortable and, most importantly, to foresee more accurately where the pointer will end up or how many shots will be fired, just to give a couple of examples.

The action becomes smoother, more manageable, and predictable. In summary, from a performance perspective, it seems that Logitech has finally reached the summit, and while it will take a few gaming sessions to get used to it, going back will be practically impossible.

This is precisely why I hope Logitech extends this technology to other models in its range. No doubt it is a more complex system than traditional ones, but in this case, we are not talking about 'gamer gadgets' but a true game changer that takes high-performance mice to the next level. This is why I believe that even a model like the G502X deserves the same upgrade, and I am sure it would be equally appreciated.

Adding to all of this is the polling rate at 8000 Hz, which, however, needs to be contextualized. While all other improvements can be immediately noticeable even in normal daily use, the polling rate, as usual, has 'dependencies.' First of all, the CPU: the update frequency at 8000 Hz significantly increases the load on the processor, so a chip capable of supporting such a high frequency without becoming a bottleneck during gaming is necessary – generally, at least 6 cores are recommended.

Excluding the CPU from consideration, there's always the monitor. If you do not have a refresh rate of at least 240 Hz, a polling rate of 8000 Hz is almost useless, very hard to perceive. Not to mention it inevitably reduces battery life.

Personally, I found the ideal compromise to be a polling rate of 4000 Hz, which fits well with the refresh rate I use on my monitor (120 Hz) and at the same time guarantees truly remarkable battery life with the G Pro X2 Superstrike as we will see later.

Battery and Connectivity

One aspect I continue to not particularly appreciate about Logitech concerns connectivity. Let's be clear, the Lightspeed protocol is a guarantee, even at 8000 Hz, but the mouse’s capabilities are limited to proprietary connection.

For instance, if we wished to use it in wired mode, the polling rate would be limited to 1000 Hz. Of course, the provided cable is not the best, but the USB Type-C connector allows you to connect practically any cable.

Bluetooth connectivity, on the other hand, is completely excluded. It must be acknowledged that it would be difficult for the G Pro X2 Superstrike to find approval in a production environment, but this is a mouse with a button configuration, dimensions, and weight similar to those of the G309, which does have Bluetooth and works quite well.

Conversely, on the battery front, the G Pro X2 Superstrike truly impressed me. With the polling rate set at 1000 Hz, Logitech promises a battery life of 90 hours. Well, with the polling rate set at 4000 Hz, the autonomy hasn’t changed much: I personally cover a whole week with an average of 10 hours of use per day. Consequently, with a polling rate of 4000 Hz, you can easily reach 70 hours of battery life.

Probably, with a refresh rate of 8000 Hz, the battery life would suffer a rather sharp cut, but it should still exceed 50 hours since this represents a truly remarkable result. To provide a comparison, the Razer Basilisk V3 Pro 35K covers about 2 days at 4000 Hz with RGB LEDs at 50% (less than 20 hours).

But that’s not all, because what really surprised me was the charging speed: in about 10 minutes via cable, the battery reaches 70% capacity. In short, if you ever forget to charge the mouse, in 5 minutes you’ll get enough power for several days of use. On this front as well, I feel the need to compliment Logitech for achieving a perfect balance between performance, battery life, and charging speed.

Of course, there’s support for Power Play, that is, the mousepad with induction charging that allows you to charge the mouse during use. Unfortunately, I don’t have one available, so I was unable to evaluate the charging performance in this context.

G HUB

I would say it’s no secret anymore: those who have read other reviews of mine know very well how much I appreciate web-based suites rather than an installation for each peripheral – unless you have accessories all from one brand. In the case of the G Pro X2 Superstrike, the management software is particularly significant.

As one can easily guess, in this case, we have not just the traditional customization package of a gaming mouse but also aspects related to the haptic motors and HITS sensors. Never has G HUB been so essential.

I must admit, however, that the configuration management is very well structured. All settings are easily accessible, placed in intuitive menus, and provide real-time visual feedback. All settings related to HITS (button sensors and haptic feedback) are gathered on a single page with a submenu for each function.

Moreover, we find a dedicated page for the scroller that features a particular functionality: BHOP. This is an option designed to avoid unintentional scrolls that might lead to unintentional weapon changes. Here you can choose the delay of the scroll wheel. Essentially, the first click will be ignored, and the input will be sent from the second if it occurs within the chosen time interval (between 100 and 1000 ms). If the second click does not occur within the preset interval, the subsequent scroll will also be ignored.

For the rest, it is the same G Hub as always, with the 'Sensitivity' and 'Mappings' sections to adjust resolution levels and remap buttons, respectively. Naturally, the lighting section is absent on the mouse, except for the small RGB LED that identifies the active profile and the battery status.

Conclusions

What remains to be said about what is perhaps currently the best competitive mouse on the market? Personally, even though I’m not a fan of symmetrical and extremely lightweight mice, the G PRO X2 Superstrike is the first to have truly convinced me.

The main reason, I must admit, is the button feedback. Essentially, the model allows for a perfect tactile response, simply because it can be configured based on your personal needs and preferences.

Now let’s get to what could be the determining factor in the choice: the price. The G PRO X2 Superstrike is priced quite high at €179.99, placing it in the upper segment of the market. A choice that therefore requires careful consideration.

The price is mostly justified by a high-level technical specification and innovative features for the sector. However, this is also a mouse aimed at a specific use and which hardly adapts to other contexts where a wider button layout would undoubtedly be more functional.

Consequently, if you are FPS competitive gamers looking for a gaming mouse that excels practically in every aspect, then the G PRO X2 Superstrike is undoubtedly what you are looking for. Control, precision, reliability, feedback, comfort – everything is meticulously designed for a performance experience without compromise. Ultimately, if the budget is not a constraint, Logitech's offering cannot disappoint.
