Enel Enters Mobile Telephony: The Virtual Provider of Electricity Has a Name and a Logo
Enel has registered the trademark and logo of Enel Mobile with the Italian Patent and Trademark Office (UIBM). The application, registered on May 14, 2026, charts a different commercial route compared to the initial hypotheses, which focused on the commercial use of the subsidiary Lene Connect. The holding company preferred to leverage the strength of the main brand for its entry into mobile telephony, alongside the term "MOBILE" in magenta to the classic gray and magenta logo of the group. Currently, the registration application is still under examination at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT).
The basis for this operation rests on the general authorization obtained on February 16, 2026, from Lene Connect S.r.l., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Enel. The ministerial document, updated on June 8, 2026, confirmed the issuance of a Full MVNO type virtual operator license. This qualification requires the construction of an independent technological infrastructure, allowing the company to manage SIM cards, numbering, and mobile termination costs autonomously. The operator will have its own MNC (Mobile Network Code), a dedicated ICCID serial with the international prefix 8939 followed by the operator code, and proprietary numbering ranges.
Enel Mobile will be the name of the new mobile virtual operator. Details about this development have been collected and disseminated by MondoMobileWeb, but there is a lack of information about the support network and the market debut timeline.
On the corporate front, since May 2026, there has been an internal reorganization aimed at the partial spin-off of Lene - the digital company born at the end of October 2025 - and the subsequent merger by incorporation of Lene Connect into Enel Energia. This move aims to centralize telephone activities under the control of the company already active in fixed telephony and energy, laying the groundwork for an integrated commercial proposition in the consumer market, where customers can activate unique offers that include electricity, gas, fixed and mobile connectivity.
This move does not represent a complete debut in the telecommunications sector. Enel was among the founders of Wind in 1997, controlling the entire share package between 2003 and 2005, before launching the tariff offering Enel Mia in partnership with the same operator in 2009. With the new Full MVNO license, the company now aims for a direct market presence, eliminating technical dependence on third-party intermediaries.
