Amazon's Agreement with Corning for the Production of Fiber Optics for Data Centers

Amazon has announced a new agreement with Corning for the production of fiber optics for its own data centers and the strengthening of the U.S. supply chain. Last month, Corning signed an agreement with NVIDIA to enhance fiber optic connectivity in data centers.

An Investment with Economic and Social Impact

The investment, which is significant for both companies, will also lead to the creation of approximately 1,000 new jobs, defined as highly skilled positions, for Corning's manufacturing facilities in North Carolina. A collaboration with Catawba Valley Community College is also planned for the training of students who will be directed toward technical roles in the fiber optic manufacturing process. Additionally, hundreds of further jobs are expected to be created for the expansion of the facilities.

Matt Garman, CEO of AWS, commented: "Amazon's investments in North Carolina have created over 26,000 jobs across the state. This multibillion-dollar agreement with Corning reaffirms that commitment, channeling investments into American manufacturing and creating 1,000 new jobs at their facilities near our data centers."

Overall, Amazon has already invested over $20 billion in North Carolina since 2010, along with a long series of contributions to support charities and local organizations. Through its activities, Amazon continues to support the American economy, and the agreement with Corning represents a key element for the future growth of its data center operations, which are central to the entire business ecosystem.
