The president is confident: "BYD will become the largest car manufacturer in the world by size within five years"
Today, the annual general meeting of BYD was held, focusing on the numbers for all of 2025 and the first results of 2026. As always, the President and CEO Wang Chuanfu spoke, expressing very positive views on the company's performance. According to him, there is no doubt: BYD is destined to become the largest company in the industry within five years.
The reason for this achievement can be found not only at home, where sales are always strong, but especially in other global markets. BYD's strategy for overseas expansion, which has often been ahead of other Chinese brands, is yielding excellent results, and the forecasts for 2026 are promising.
The company has estimated total sales outside of China to be 1.6 million vehicles this year, but the numbers from these first months suggest that this threshold could even be surpassed. Wang highlighted the importance of localization to ensure stable and sustainable growth: the benefits are both for BYD and for the countries where the company has opened or will open local factories.
BYD's head also emphasized the significance of assisted and autonomous driving as a driver of innovation, and of course, his company is well-positioned in this regard. With 3.15 million vehicles equipped with autonomous driving already in circulation worldwide, BYD is accumulating data at a rate of 200 million km per day. A massive amount of data that BYD is already using to design future versions, looking ahead to the approval of level 3 and 4 autonomous driving. For this, it has already opened several development centers practically all over the world: Europe, South America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
