Instagram Introduces Global Feature to Freely Rearrange Profile Grid

Instagram has begun the global rollout of a new feature that allows users to freely modify the arrangement of the content on their profile grid. After a testing period limited to selected groups, the feature is now available on both Android and iOS devices.

Until this update, the profile structure was strictly based on the chronological order of posts, with the only exception being the option to pin up to three pieces of content at the top of the page. With the new option, users can select any post and manually move it within the grid through a simple drag-and-drop gesture.

Pinned content will still remain highlighted at the top of the profile, while all other posts can be freely reorganized, regardless of their publication date. This change allows for greater customization of the profile's appearance, enabling users to create a visual layout that is more consistent with their aesthetic or communicative preferences.

Instagram's Objective with This Update

This update was previously announced by the platform's head, Adam Mosseri, who introduced the project about a year earlier. At that time, it was acknowledged that the shift to vertical thumbnails had created difficulties in managing profile appearances, generating dissatisfaction among many users.

The official launch of this feature comes after months of waiting and internal experimentation. With the large-scale activation, Instagram responds to one of the most frequent requests from the community, even though there are still other desired features that have not yet been implemented.

This new option represents a significant change in how profiles are constructed and displayed, shifting the focus from a simple timeline to a more flexible and creative management of published content. According to the communication released by the platform, the goal is to offer greater control over the visual identity of the profile and to enhance the overall customization experience.
