TIM, price increases from July: how to avoid the €1.99 increase
TIM does not slow down the sequence of tariff adjustments and makes its eighth adjustment for consumer mobile telephony in 2026.
From July 12, 2026, a new tranche of private customers with prepaid SIMs will face a unilateral increase of €1.99 per month. The justification provided by the operator fits into the framework of economic needs related to changed market conditions, but for the affected users, a narrow time window opens to defuse the cost increase without necessarily having to change operators.
Each affected user who wishes to maintain their monthly expenditure can refuse the adjustment by sending a free SMS to the number 40916 containing the text CONFERMO ON. This action allows them to migrate to an alternative offer that maintains the same current monthly fee, even granting an additional 2 GB of data traffic. However, care must be taken regarding the substantial details: in some past tiers, the requested command was different, which is why it is essential to verify the exact syntax within the personalized informational SMS sent by the operator starting June 8.
5G Ultra compensations or penalty-free termination
Users who decide to accept the €1.99 monthly increase can still access some free compensations. Depending on the line and the specific instructions contained in the notification message, the operator offers two optional enhancements for their package:
- The addition of 50 extra GB per month by sending a message with the text ‘50GIGA ON’ to 40916;
- The free activation of the line for 5G Ultra, the fifth-generation connectivity with prioritized access that boosts field performance up to 2 Gbps download and 300 Mbps upload. Activation in this case requires sending the command ‘5G ON’, also to 40916.
The right to terminate for free or to switch to another operator remains intact, exercisable without penalties or disconnection fees until August 11, 2026. To proceed with closing the line, users can use digital channels via the online termination form or send a PEC, being aware that disconnection entails losing the mobile number. It is also possible to choose only the deactivation of the adjusted offer to remain with the basic SIM tariff. For those with active installment payments for devices or TIMFIN financing, it will be necessary to fill out the appropriate documentation to decide whether to settle the remaining installments in a single payment or continue with the established repayment plan without changes.
