OLED Displays in notebooks, Omdia predicts strong growth: Apple will be the main driver
The memory crisis will not stop the notebook market, which is already ready to explore new solutions to increase the value of its products. One of the upcoming trends is represented by models with OLED displays, an element already quite widespread in the sector but now ready to register significant expansion, as confirmed by a new report by Omdia. Apple will play a crucial role in this future growth with its new MacBooks.
A Growing Sector: Here are the Estimates
The OLED display sector for notebooks is expected to reach revenues of 4 billion dollars by 2026, leveraging the debut of the new MacBook Pro with OLED displays which, according to Omdia, should debut in the third quarter of 2026 (this period may refer to the start of OLED panel shipments while commercial launch could come in Q4 2026).
Jerry Kang, head of Omdia, emphasized:
"Apple is adopting hybrid OLED technology for the MacBook Pro series, based on oxide TFT and RGB tandem OLED. This combination is being used for the first time in this format and is designed to reduce power consumption compared to single LTPO and RGB OLEDs."
The coming years will be characterized by a decisive acceleration for the market segment, with notebooks featuring OLED displays expected to reach 11.5 billion dollars by 2033. The sector is set to account for approximately 16.2% of the total revenue of the OLED display industry.
Samsung Display, Apple’s supplier for MacBooks with OLED displays, will play an increasingly important role. It remains to be seen whether the growing prevalence of models with OLED panels will lead to a further increase in prices in a sector already grappling with the difficulties related to the memory crisis.
