Among Motherboards, Graphics Cards, and AI: Sapphire's Innovations at Computex 2026

Among graphics card manufacturers, Sapphire is a well-known brand among enthusiasts, always linked to offering proposals based on AMD Radeon architectures. Like brands that also offer solutions with NVIDIA GeForce GPUs, at Computex 2026, the Asian company did not bring significant innovations but showcased its range of solutions that span from graphics cards to motherboards, up to more compact systems dedicated to vertical fields related to artificial intelligence.

Sapphire's consumer range is divided into three product families, each with proposals for motherboards and graphics cards. We are talking about the Pulse, Pure, and Nitro families, with levels of construction complexity that tend to increase as the range progresses, to better meet the different needs of customers.

At a time in the market when high DDR5 memory prices, combined with a general lack of significant news regarding processors from both Intel and AMD, are slowing consumer demand, motherboard manufacturers are proposing solutions that aim to position themselves in well-defined niches. An example is the Sapphire Pulse B550M motherboard, an mATX form factor solution that features the classic AMD AM4 socket compatible with Ryzen processors up to the 5000 series, and, importantly, paired with DDR4 memory.

This technical choice, combined with a simple yet complete design and the availability of AMD processors for Socket AM4 from the 5000 series recently released on the market, allows for the assembly of a new system without reaching the cost levels of other proposals and without particular limitations for functionality and performance.

The most interesting technical element of some of the products that Sapphire showcased at Computex 2026 is the Phantom Link technology, thanks to which the power supply for the graphics card is no longer provided through the traditional PCI Express connectors from the power supply but through a dedicated connection between the graphics card and the motherboard. The connector is positioned behind the dedicated PCI Express 16x slot for the graphics card, in a position and with a footprint that does not hinder the installation of a traditional non-Phantom Link graphics card.

On the graphics card, there is a rear connector that carries the power signal, paired with the one on the motherboard. These graphics cards are not compatible with motherboards lacking this standard, not so much due to the footprint of the connector as because of the lack of traditional power connectors to connect to the system's power supply.

This type of design mirrors what has been shown by other companies with similar standards, such as the BTF developed by Asus. For Sapphire, the emphasis is mainly on the graphics card, allowing system manufacturing partners and system integrators to develop bundles between motherboards and graphics cards.

The family of Sapphire Edge AI solutions includes very compact systems, specifically designed to meet the needs of artificial intelligence processing in edge applications. This type of system is experiencing widespread adoption, thanks to the combination of good computing power and very compact sizes. The ease of installation in various contexts, together with superior data security as they remain on the device for processing, has decreed their adoption in very different environments.

An example from this family of systems is the Sapphire Rave 2 - Core and Rave 2 - Pro systems, models that combine AMD Ryzen AI Embedded P100 processors with AMD Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 SoCs, capable of accelerating operations related to artificial intelligence while optimizing latency by combining AI engine tiles and video codec units. These systems can simultaneously manage up to five 4K video signals, connecting to the network with integrated 10 Gbit cards, all within a very compact footprint.
