Withings BodyFit, the scale that goes far beyond just weight

Withings announces BodyFit, a new smart scale designed to offer a level of body composition analysis that aims to approach the professional tools used in clinical and sports environments. This new product from Withings fits into a market category increasingly oriented towards in-depth monitoring of physiological parameters, going well beyond simple weight measurement.

BIS multi-frequency technology up to 800 kHz

The main technical innovation introduced by Withings BodyFit is represented by segmental analysis in 6 zones, made possible by a special hardware architecture that integrates a retractable handle equipped with dedicated sensors. Thanks to this solution, BodyFit is capable of performing a complete body composition scan in about 10 seconds, collecting detailed information on the distribution of muscle mass and fat mass in different body regions.

The technological heart of BodyFit consists of the BIS (Bioelectrical Impedance Spectroscopy) platform, an evolved version of the traditional bioimpedance technologies adopted by many smart scales on the market. Withings uses measurements at 13 different frequencies reaching up to 800 kHz. The goal is to improve the system’s ability to distinguish various biological tissues and provide a more accurate estimate of body parameters.

The hardware includes a total of eight electrodes: four integrated into the base and four placed in the retractable handle. This configuration allows for multiple electric pathways through the body, obtaining much more detailed information compared to traditional scales that rely only on measurements through the lower limbs.

According to data provided by the company, the technology has been validated against the DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) method, considered one of the clinical references for body composition analysis. The stated results indicate a correlation of up to 99% for fat mass and up to 98% for muscle mass.

Segmental analysis: the data that matters more than weight

One of the most interesting aspects of the approach proposed by Withings relates to overcoming the traditional concept of body weight as the sole indicator of health status. BodyFit is, in fact, designed to monitor the segmental distribution of fat and muscle in six different areas of the body, providing information that can be especially useful for both athletes and those following weight loss journeys.

Simply losing kilograms does not necessarily represent an improvement in body composition. A reduction in weight can stem from a decrease in fat mass but also from a loss of muscle mass, which is generally an undesirable condition, especially in the long term.

Through segmental analysis, the system can highlight any imbalances between the left and right sides of the body, monitor the effects of specific training programs, and check how physiological changes are distributed over time.

Special attention to users of GLP-1 medications

One of the main features of Withings BodyFit is aimed at patients using medications belonging to the GLP-1 category, molecules that have been revolutionizing the treatment of obesity and overweight in recent years. One of the most discussed side effects of these treatments concerns the risk of losing muscle mass along with adipose tissue. From this viewpoint, the possibility of constantly monitoring body composition becomes a particularly relevant element.

BodyFit offers a visual representation of the balance between muscle and fat in different body areas, allowing the user to check whether the weight loss journey is indeed favoring the reduction of fat mass while preserving muscle mass. Special attention is also dedicated to monitoring visceral fat, a parameter considered very important from a cardiometabolic perspective since it correlates with numerous health risk factors.

Over 40 physiological parameters detected

With each measurement, BodyFit is capable of collecting over 40 different physiological and biometric data. The software ecosystem developed by Withings analyzes this information through the proprietary app, building up a personal history over time that allows users to identify trends and variations often difficult to grasp through sporadic observations.

One of the distinguishing elements of the system is the automation of the analysis. The user does not need to manually enter information related to diet: the platform automatically processes estimates on caloric balance and generates suggestions based on habits detected over time.

The integration with the Withings+ service also adds advanced functionalities based on artificial intelligence. With the purchase of the scale, users receive a one-month free trial of the service, which includes a virtual health assistant capable of contextualizing measurements and providing personalized operational guidance.

The range of smart scales from Withings

The new BodyFit scale represents the entry model of the advanced body composition range and is proposed at a price of 249.95 euros. Moving up in category, we find Body Scan, marketed at 399.95 euros. This model adds advanced cardiovascular features such as a 6-lead ECG and measurement of vascular age through pulse wave velocity analysis. At the top of the range is BodyScan 2, offered at 499.95 euros, which further expands the number of monitored biomarkers, surpassing 60 parameters.

Withings BodyFit will be available in Europe and the UK starting from July 1, 2026, at a recommended price of 249.99 euros. Purchases will be available through the official Withings store and subsequently through major online and physical retailers.
