Valve Confirms Summer Release of Steam Machine and Steam Frame After Months of Delays
Valve has announced that Steam Machine and Steam Frame, the two devices announced at the end of last year alongside the new Steam Controller, are now expected to launch in the summer of 2026. The confirmation came through an update dedicated to the compatibility verification programs for games on the new hardware platforms.
Originally, the company had indicated early 2026 as the anticipated period for the products to hit the market. However, in the following months, Valve had to revise its plans due to difficulties related to the availability of memory and storage components, factors that have influenced both production and pricing. In February, the company explained that such issues made it necessary to re-evaluate the business strategy.
Later, in March, it reaffirmed the intention to distribute all three new devices by 2026. Meanwhile, the new Steam Controller was launched separately and went on sale at the beginning of May. Although Valve has not yet provided a specific date for the arrival of Steam Machine and Steam Frame, the indication of summer significantly narrows the timeframe for the debut of the products.
Valve and the Preparation for the Release of Steam Machine and Steam Frame
In preparation for the launch, the company is working on a revamp of the Steam store and the introduction of specific certification programs for developers. The goal is to enable video game creators to verify the compatibility of their works with the new hardware in advance.
Regarding Steam Machine, Valve explains that the required criteria for obtaining certification are very similar to those already used for Steam Deck. The company further emphasizes that the new machine will offer processing power about six times greater than the portable console, a factor that could allow a larger number of games to meet the required standards. Steam Frame, the new virtual reality headset, will also have its own verification system.
The compatibility badge will identify games capable of functioning properly directly on the device in standalone mode, without the need for streaming from other platforms. However, the headset will still support content streaming from external systems. Two critical aspects remain unknown: the exact marketing date and the official pricing of the devices.
