Elden Ring Finally Arrives on Nintendo Switch 2: FromSoftware Announces Official Release Date for Tarnished Edition

FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment have officially announced the release date of Elden Ring for Nintendo Switch 2. The renowned action RPG will be available on the new Nintendo console starting August 28 through a version called Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition.

This edition will include both the base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, offering players the complete experience of the work developed by FromSoftware. Besides the already published content, the Tarnished Edition will introduce some new features, including two new starting classes, new character armor, and additional customization options for Torrent, the mount used during the adventure.

However, the new features will not be exclusive to the Switch 2 version. FromSoftware has confirmed that these additional contents will also be purchasable on other platforms where the game is available, namely PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The Tarnished Edition of Elden Ring for Switch 2, along with further details about the franchise, is set to be quite extensive. Elden Ring was originally released in 2022 and quickly achieved massive commercial and critical success, becoming one of the most significant titles in the recent history of the Japanese studio. Subsequently, the expansion Shadow of the Erdtree was released, followed by the multiplayer spin-off Nightreign.

The debut of Elden Ring on Nintendo Switch 2 was initially scheduled earlier but was postponed. Reports indicate that the decision was made to give developers more necessary time to make some adjustments regarding the performance of the game on the new platform. For those who have yet to explore the Lands Between, it is worth noting that upon its release in 2022, Elden Ring was described as a "grand", "mysterious", and "somewhat more accessible" title compared to previous FromSoftware productions. Meanwhile, the franchise continues to expand beyond the realm of video games. A cinematic adaptation of Elden Ring is indeed in the works, scheduled to hit theaters on March 3, 2028.
