Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, the 1996 game remake, has been postponed to 2027

Crystal Dynamics has announced a delay for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, the remake of the first chapter of Lara Croft's saga originally set for 2026. The new release window has been set for early 2027, as communicated during the PlayStation State of Play presentation, where a first gameplay powered by Unreal Engine 5 was also shown.

The project, developed in collaboration with Amazon Games, represents a new interpretation of the 1996 title that initiated Lara Croft's story. Initially announced with a generic launch window in 2026, the game has now been officially repositioned to February 12, 2027.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is built entirely on Unreal Engine 5 and aims to reinvent the original experience by expanding the game environments. Areas that were once more linear and confined have been transformed into semi-interconnected spaces that players can freely explore from different perspectives.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and upcoming edition details According to the development team, each environment has been designed as a realistic place, rich in secrets, collectibles, and resources meant to reward exploration. Iconic puzzles, like the gear puzzle, have also been rethought and integrated more organically into the game world. The result is a more vibrant and detailed representation of Peru, with a strong focus on the history and atmosphere of the locations.

The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and also on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The standard version price will be $59.99. A Deluxe Edition is also planned at $69.99, which will include 48 hours of early access, an additional costume, and a post-launch DLC package. For collectors, a Collector's Edition will be available for $199.99, which will contain a steelbook, a statue featuring Lara Croft alongside a T-Rex, an art book, and other dedicated physical contents. Crystal Dynamics has also reminded that a second project related to the franchise, titled Tomb Raider Catalyst, is in development.
