Marvel's Wolverine: a new and extremely violent gameplay shown at Sony's State of Play
During the PlayStation State of Play presentation, Sony opened the event with a broad gameplay demonstration dedicated to Marvel's Wolverine, a title developed by Insomniac Games and initially announced in 2021. During the event, the official release date for the game was finally confirmed, set for September 15, 2026 on PlayStation 5.
The game is set in the same narrative universe as the Spider-Man titles developed by the same studio, but it stands out for a much darker, more violent, and brutal tone, consistent with the character of Logan. The developers described the experience as an original story "full of emotions," in which Wolverine and other mutants strive to survive in a hostile world.
According to Insomniac Games, the situation for mutants is extremely critical: they live in hiding, fearing those who hunt them, while the general society remains unaware of their existence. In this context, the so-called Team X comes into play, a unit of mutants ready to resist in the final phase of a survival war. Logan, having left the group three years prior, returns to be part of it.
Highlights of Marvel's Wolverine Gameplay from State of Play
The showcased gameplay highlights numerous encounters with iconic characters from the Marvel universe, including Jean Grey, Mystique, and Sabretooth. In some sequences, combined attacks between Wolverine and Jean Grey are observed, with her using her telekinetic abilities to support him in combat, suggesting the presence of additional mutants throughout the story.
The combat system revolves around Wolverine's fierce and close-quarters style. By attacking, parrying, and defeating enemies, Logan is able to regenerate a portion of the damage sustained. In critical moments, he can also activate a more savage and instinctive mode, gaining a significant advantage in confrontations.
The official release date is set for September 15, 2026. Pre-orders were opened immediately after the presentation. Those who pre-order the game will receive additional bonuses, including the classic brown costume, reflective claws, an extra skill point for progression, and four PlayStation avatars.
