Fallout 76: native versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S nearly 6 years after the launch of the consoles
Bethesda is finally ready to release the native versions of Fallout 76 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, almost six years after the debut of the current generation consoles. Before the official launch, expected during the summer, the developers will start a public testing phase already in June.
According to Bethesda, the new versions of the game will aim for a smoothness of 60 frames per second and will introduce a series of graphical improvements, including more detailed shadows and an increased draw distance for elements present on the map. Moreover, the editions for PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X/S will support VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) technology, allowing for better synchronization between the console and a compatible display.
However, on the resolution front, some differences may surprise players. Bethesda has confirmed that the versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will continue to run at a 1080p resolution. For the more powerful platforms, Fallout 76 can be played in 4K on Xbox Series X, Xbox One X, and PS5 Pro.
Fallout 76 on PS5 and Xbox Series X: more details on the new version
The long time taken to create dedicated versions for current-gen consoles has raised some concerns. Considering the success of the Fallout TV series, which has brought significant attention back to the franchise, an earlier release of these editions would likely have allowed Bethesda to further capitalize on the popularity of the brand.
It's not ruled out that more details about the future of the saga will be shared during the Xbox Games Showcase scheduled for this Sunday. In the meantime, Bethesda has released a new update to inaugurate Season 25 of Fallout 76. Among the main novelties are infestations, that is, particularly large groups of enemies that will appear in specific areas of the map. By eliminating all hostile creatures and defeating an elite boss, players can obtain a four-star legendary weapon or an armor piece of the same level. Starting from June 23, players will also be able to engage in a new seasonal activity: fishing.
