The 'crisis' of memories continues: for producers, the last quarter has been record-breaking (+260%)

The crisis of memories is a highly current topic, although the term "crisis" does not apply to everyone. Some companies (and their investors) are significantly benefiting from this unprecedented demand for memory modules, particularly for DRAM memory. A new report from Counterpoint offers an overview of the situation.

A rapidly growing sector

In the first quarter of 2026, global revenue from DRAM memory increased by about 80% compared to the previous quarter and by approximately 260% compared to the same period last year, totaling an impressive $97 billion. Dominating the market are the "big three": Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, which collectively control 89% of the market. One should not underestimate the growth of the fourth player, CXMT, which has recently recorded a substantial increase in market share.

Counterpoint's analysis highlights another important aspect. The average prices of DRAM memory are still rising. In the second quarter of 2026 (considering HBM memories as well), the increase is expected to be around +50%. Additionally, the market is likely to continue growing at a frantic pace, with improvements exceeding 300% for 2026.

The numbers are clear: the so-called crisis of memories will continue, and producers will keep benefiting from it, with growth expected to extend for a long time. For the customers of these companies and for end consumers, however, they must account for still very high prices for memories.
