YouTube will notify users if a video was made or modified with AI
The spread of AI-generated content is constantly growing and represents an issue that YouTube must address. The Google platform must find the right balance between the positive and negative aspects related to the use of generative AI for the creation or modification of videos.
In the meantime, however, YouTube chooses to focus on transparency, introducing a new system to clarify to users that content was created using artificial intelligence. Here are the details.
A Label to Identify AI
To achieve this goal, the platform is preparing to introduce a simple yet effective "AI" label that will indicate the presence of content that has been significantly created or modified using artificial intelligence. This label will be placed below the video player or, for Shorts, will overlay the video. The focus of the new system will be to make realistic content recognizable where AI has been used.
It is also worth noting that YouTube will start analyzing the content uploaded by users to check for the presence of elements created or altered by artificial intelligence that are not declared by the user at the time of the video upload via manual declaration.
When YouTube's system autonomously detects the presence of AI-created elements, it will apply the transparency label to the video itself once it is made public on the platform. In case of incorrect classification, the user will be able to intervene to request a modification. Content created with AI tools, such as Veo or Dream Screen, and those that include C2PA metadata will always be labeled automatically.
