Xiaomi Launches REDMI Pad 2 9.7: Compact Tablet with 2K Display at 120 Hz and Snapdragon 6s Gen 2
Xiaomi has expanded its tablet lineup with the new REDMI Pad 2 9.7, a compact model that updates the REDMI Pad series by introducing improvements in display, battery life, and performance. The device was officially announced today and aims to strengthen the manufacturer’s presence in the entry-level and mid-range market.
The new tablet features a 9.7-inch LCD display in a 16:10 format, characterized by a 2K resolution of 2048 x 1280 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Xiaomi emphasizes its focus on multimedia experience, with support for a wide color gamut and brightness reaching 600 nits in Outdoor mode. In terms of visual protection, the panel has received TÜV Rheinland certifications for Low Blue Light, Flicker Free, and Circadian Friendly.
From a hardware perspective, the REDMI Pad 2 9.7 integrates the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 mobile platform manufactured using a 6 nm production process. The octa-core chip can reach frequencies of up to 2.9 GHz and is paired with an Adreno 610 GPU, LPDDR4X memory, and UFS 2.2 storage. According to the data released by the company, the new SoC would guarantee a 34% performance increase compared to the previous generation, with scores exceeding 400,000 points in the AnTuTu benchmark.
Battery life is provided by a 7600 mAh battery compatible with 18 W fast charging via USB Type-C port. Xiaomi claims up to 1.7 days of typical usage, thus focusing on energy management aimed at entertainment and prolonged use away from a power outlet.
On the software side, the tablet comes with Xiaomi HyperOS 3 preinstalled. Among the highlighted features are the shared clipboard between smartphones and tablets, call synchronization with Xiaomi devices, and integration of the “Circle and Search with Google” function. The interface also introduces new customization options for the lock screen and wallpapers.
The device maintains a rather complete set of features for its category. It includes Hi-Res Audio certified stereo speakers, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and an expansion slot for SD cards. The camera setup includes an 8 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera, both capable of recording video up to 1080p at 30 fps.
In terms of build quality, the REDMI Pad 2 9.7 adopts a 7.4 mm thick unibody metal design with a weight of 406 grams. Xiaomi claims that the device has passed over 40 internal durability tests. The available colors are Graphite Gray and Silver.
As for pricing and availability, the tablet is marketed in two configurations: 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB of storage for €179.90 and a 4 GB + 128 GB variant for €199.90.
