Design

The aesthetic of the Xiaomi 17T Pro is dominated by the imposing rear camera module housing the Vario-Summilux lenses, a visual break from the simplicity of the smartphone's lines that emphasizes its professional vocation. With physical dimensions of 162.2mm in height, 77.5mm in width, and a thickness of 8.25mm, the device weighs in at 219 grams, a figure fully justified by the presence of a large display, magnetic modules for induction charging, and the capacity of the battery.

The casing, offered in Deep Blue, Deep Violet (the color of the device we tested), and Black, provides a soft transition between the protective glass and the side profile to improve grip and facilitate handling during extended handheld shooting sessions. Included in the package is a soft rubber case, more useful than beautiful, but soft to the touch and able to provide excellent grip.

The construction quality finds its natural confirmation in the presence of the IP68 certification, which ensures waterproofing and total protection against dust infiltration, making the smartphone suitable for use in any environmental or weather scenario. The button layout is standard: the volume rocker and power button are both located on the right side and provide excellent feedback. The charging port is on the bottom, along with the speaker grill (there are two, in stereo configuration) and one of the microphones.

It's not a compact smartphone, but the ergonomics are better than one might expect from the numbers declared by the manufacturer.

Software, Hardware, and Performance

The coordination of the excellent technical compartment of the smartphone is entrusted to the proprietary operating system Xiaomi HyperOS 3. The interface is lean, responsive, and free of uncertainties: system animations remain anchored to the 144Hz of the panel without showing micro-stutters or graphic slowdowns, even during the most complex transitions or heavy rendering phases.

HyperAI is at the heart of the AI-related experiences, with Gemini seamlessly integrated and present on the device from first boot. Among the available features, we mention:

  • AI Writing: writing assistant for generating and refining texts
  • AI Voice Recognition: real-time transcription and translation distinguishing speakers and creating automatic summaries
  • AI Interpreter: real-time bilingual subtitles and simultaneous interpretation
  • AI Dynamic Wallpapers: can bring traditional static wallpapers to life
  • AI Creativity Assistant: can create or edit photos
  • AI Conversation Translator: technology for offline face-to-face conversation translation
  • AI Subtitles: transcribes meetings and video calls translating audio into bilingual subtitles

On the pure performance front, the Xiaomi 17T Pro positions itself in the high-end of the market thanks to the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor, although it cannot compete with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 devices. Manufactured with a 3nm process, the SoC guarantees high-level performance, notwithstanding noticeable rear casing heating that is not worrying or annoying to the touch.

Benchmarks confirm the device's excellent qualities, maintaining high performance both in ordinary and extraordinary use cases with extremely limited thermal throttling.

As for audio playback, the performance is optimal thanks to dual stereo speakers that deliver excellent sound quality, while Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res and Hi-Res Wireless certifications help when connecting headphones or external audio systems. Great performance from antennas and network module was also observed, introducing compatibility with the Wi-Fi 7 standard: local and cellular data transfers never posed problems, and communications during the trial period were always smooth and stable, not making us long for other flagship models - even more expensive ones.

Display

The front AMOLED panel measures 6.83 inches and boasts a 1.5K resolution of 2772 x 1280 pixels, with a density suitable for ensuring maximum sharpness of texts and images. The color reproduction extends to 68 billion shades covering the entire DCI-P3 color gamut, with Pro-grade precision guaranteed by a declared Delta E of less than 0.3, making it a reliable tool for professional photo editing.

The refresh rate at 144Hz dynamically adapts to the displayed content to preserve energy efficiency and can be configured by the user to prioritize energy saving (locking it at 60Hz). The declared peak brightness, as mentioned, reaches 3500 nits under direct sunlight, dropping to just 1 nit in nighttime settings to avoid glare.

Regarding visual well-being, Xiaomi Vision Care technology is structured along 4 key areas and 35 validated test indicators backed by a quadruple TÜV Rheinland certification. The system reduces blue light at the hardware level by shifting the light spectrum peak and employs a circadian algorithm to adjust the color temperature based on local time. The full-spectrum DC dimming backlighting technology eliminates invisible flicker across the entire brightness scale, while the dual front and rear light sensors ensure automatic modulation at 16,000 intensity levels within a range of 1 to 100,000 lux.

The analysis of the Xiaomi 17T Pro's panel was conducted with the X-Rite i1Display Pro colorimeter and the HCFR software suite, prior to calibration using the X-Rite i1 Pro 2 spectrophotometer, ensuring full measure reliability.

Battery Life

Battery life is supported by a 7000mAh silicon-carbon battery that exceeds the physical limits of conventional systems, increasing energy density by 16% within a compact module. The smartphone scored 995 minutes in our "overall" test, conducted with display brightness set to 200 nits and a script simulating human interactions on web pages, video streaming, and alternating CPU and GPU benchmark sessions. This performance guarantees continuous use surpassing 24 hours of real-world operation even under stressful use focusing on data connectivity and multimedia recording. These numbers were previously only found in advanced mid-range devices, but here they are proposed with far superior performance.

For energy recovery, the 100W HyperCharge architecture offers lightning-fast charging times through the wired charger compatible with the PD-PPS standard, coupled with the versatility of 50W HyperCharge wireless charging to power the phone by placing it on dedicated induction bases. In terms of battery life, it's truly hard to wish for anything more, even if the charger is not included in the original box.

Camera

The camera system of the Xiaomi 17T Pro introduces a capture philosophy centered around mastering optical perspective and minimizing digital artifacts, making it one of the most refined components of the entire device. The beating heart of the system is the proprietary Xiaomi AISP platform, processing RAW data by performing multi-frame fusions at a single pixel level through the FusionLM module and managing color nuances with ColorLM technology. The Leica Live Moment feature allows users to record movements and the story preceding the shot while maintaining the aesthetic of physical lenses, enabling via the gallery the application of the watermark with the classic red badge or exporting video in mp4 format with jpeg frames inserted at the beginning and end of the clip for a smooth transition on social platforms. For portraits, the Leica Portrait and Master Portrait modes rely on PortraitLM and ToneLM algorithms to accurately separate subjects from the background, optimizing skin tones and simulating real optical bokeh even under complex artificial lighting.

Final Thoughts

The Xiaomi 17T Pro proves to be a smartphone of great substance, free from concessions to fleeting aesthetic trends and focused on maximum efficiency and concreteness of use. Despite a significant physical footprint and weight, we find ourselves facing a reliable and complete work tool (and—why not—for gaming) with abundant raw power and a display that doesn't disappoint compared to much more expensive flagships.

The decision to implement a 7000mAh silicon-carbon battery eliminates any concerns related to charge duration: it is, in my opinion, a fundamental feature for a high-end smartphone in 2026. This component offers exclusive battery life previously only found in the mid-range, but for a smartphone without compromises.

The photography experience guided by the periscopic telephoto lens and supported by Xiaomi AISP RAW algorithms raises the level of multimedia production on the go, offering concrete and effective solutions for managing portraits and shots even in critical lighting conditions. It is not a camera phone in the purest sense of the term, but it is a complete smartphone for photography capable of delivering very high-quality shots in all situations. The price is not low, but one must consider that this Xiaomi 17T Pro can be the right choice for those wanting the experience typical of a flagship well below a thousand euros, accepting really few compromises.
