User data of those who preordered the Trump Phone has been leaked online

After months and months of delays, Trump Mobile has unveiled for the first time its final version of the Trump Phone T1, accompanied by a hands-on video and the promise of a quick start to shipping for customers who preordered. However, the commercial launch of the smartphone has begun with a misstep as the company suffered a data breach involving its customers.

The leak does not relate to the mobile network: Trump Mobile, as a reminder, is a virtual operator utilizing the T-Mobile network.

User Data Leaked Online

The operator now faces a cybersecurity issue. The data of some customers has been exposed, and reports indicate that the responsibility lies with an unspecified third-party provider. The leak has been confirmed by a Trump Mobile spokesperson to TechCrunch. The exposed information includes some personal data (first name, last name, email address, residential address, phone number, and order code), while payment information remains secure.

Currently, according to the company, there is no confirmation of an online distribution of the stolen data. Some YouTubers, likely who preordered the smartphone to review it at launch, reported that they have received alerts regarding the online exposure of their personal data.

According to the leaked unique IDs, it seems that about 30,000 users may have preordered the smartphone, a significantly lower number compared to the nearly 600,000 estimated in the early months after the announcement. In the meantime, the Trump Mobile smartphone is expected to hit the American market soon.
