Steam Machine, perhaps we're getting closer: the debut could be near
The Steam Machine was announced several months ago, but due to the memory crisis, it has yet to make its official market debut. However, after the launch of the new Steam Controller, the timing seems ripe for the debut of the Steam Machine as well. Here are the latest updates on the project.
Is the launch near?
In recent days, the Steam Machine has been listed in the official database of products compliant with the Khronos Vulkan standard, where it is referred to as "AMD Steam Machine". The database also anticipates some features of the project, such as the presence of an AMD Custom CPU 1772 and a GPU with Vulkan 1.4 support through open-source drivers for AMD GPUs.
On the software side, the operating system will be based on a Linux distribution (6.16.12-valve6-1-neptune-616). We are in the final stages that precede the official launch of the new Steam Machine.
However, several aspects still need clarification, both regarding the complete technical specifications of the product and, above all, the price, which will be a central element in understanding the real potential of the project.
The memory crisis and the increase in component prices represent a significant obstacle for Valve, which has been forced to postpone the product launch to finalize all the details and, especially, to identify the right price for the start of commercialization. The Steam Machine has the potential to carve out a leading space in the market, even though the launch will occur at a particularly complex time for the entire industry.
