Spotify Expands Audiobook Library with Over 650 Narrated Articles from Major International Magazines
Spotify has announced a significant expansion of its audiobook library by introducing over 650 long-form narrated articles from some of the most recognized international publications. The new audio content will be available in English in all regions where the platform's audiobook service is active.
The initial selection includes articles published by well-known magazines and outlets such as Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, Vogue, Variety, Billboard, Vibe, GQ, WIRED, Vanity Fair, and Pitchfork. According to Spotify, the collection has been built around themes that are particularly popular among the platform's users, especially music, technology, and culture.
Colleen Prendergast, Licensing Lead of Spotify Audiobooks, explained that the introduction of articles represents a natural extension of the experience already offered with music, podcasts, and audiobooks. The company's goal is to also offer shorter content that can gradually ease users into consuming longer audiobooks available in the catalog.
Additional Details on the Duration of Available Articles
Every narrated article available on Spotify has a duration of less than two hours, and listening is counted within the hours included in the audiobook subscriptions. Premium users actually have 15 hours of monthly listening dedicated to audiobooks. For those who want more time, additional packages are available, such as the Audiobooks+ plan, which expands the monthly listening limit. Alternatively, users can purchase individual articles at the price of $2 each.
Spotify also stated that the new audio articles were produced in-house by the Spotify Audiobooks team. However, the company has not yet clarified whether the narrations were done by human voice actors or generated using artificial intelligence tools.
The announcement comes just days after the presentation of new AI initiatives showcased during the company's Investor Day. Among the new features expected in the U.S. market next month will be a function capable of creating personalized podcasts directly within Spotify using the user's profile and uploaded files such as PDFs or URLs.
