Samsung complicates its life: the names of the Galaxy Z may change

Samsung has plans for two new Galaxy Z Fold devices. In addition to the new generation model that we already know, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, a "wide" version is coming with a display characterized by a different aspect ratio, particularly wider horizontally.

The Korean company is preparing to further complicate matters by updating the range with a new nomenclature for its foldable smartphones that could confuse a significant portion of users.

A questionable choice

A new report from insider Ice Universe has anticipated Samsung's next moves. According to the information that has emerged in recent hours, the Galaxy Fold 8 will hit the market under the name Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, a name that echoes the Galaxy S26 Ultra and emphasizes its top-of-the-line role.

As for the completely new addition to the range, the Galaxy Fold 8 Wide, the commercial name should simply be Galaxy Z Fold 8. Essentially, the Fold 8 will become Ultra while the Wide model will be called Fold 8, with a name change that is at least questionable.

Between the two smartphones, aside from the display, there will also be other hardware differences. The Ultra model will indeed have three rear cameras and will feature a larger battery for greater autonomy. The Wide, which will simply be called Fold 8, is expected to have two rear cameras and a smaller battery. We cannot rule out the possibility that Samsung will also opt to differentiate the SoCs of its new Folds.
