Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 4, official release date and content roadmap announced

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 4 finally has an official release date, and the return of this historic strategic series seems near. The new chapter developed by King Art Games will arrive on September 17, 2026, while those who purchase the Commander Edition will be able to start playing a few days early, specifically from September 14.

The announcement came during the Warhammer Skulls event, where the developers also showcased the content plan expected after the launch. The team confirmed that the game will receive free updates, paid DLC, and several new features distributed over the first year of support.

Among the most anticipated elements is the return of the Crusade mode, scheduled for autumn 2026. This mode will revive some beloved ideas from Dark Crusade, introducing a large strategic map based on territory control and the gradual conquest of the planet. In addition, new modes, map packs, a mission editor, and additional commanders with custom objectives will be introduced.

Regarding premium content, the Commander Edition will include two major expansions. The first will be a prologue dedicated to the Blood Ravens, a historic faction of the Space Marines that is much loved by the community. The story will be set before the main events of the campaign and will narrate the return of an assault team to their home planet, Aurelia. The developers have not yet revealed the identity of the mysterious commander mentioned in the official description.

Following this, Aftermath will be released, a truly narrative expansion that will introduce a new playable faction and continue the main story by showcasing the consequences of the war. This content will also bring new commanders and significant expansion to the Crusade mode.

During an interview with IGN, creative director Jan Theysen and senior game designer Elliott Verbiest hinted that the number of factions may increase further in the future. While not naming specifics, the developers suggested that some historic races from the saga could still appear. The team clarified that support beyond the first year will depend on the commercial success of the game.
