Sega: a mysterious teaser may anticipate the official return of Crazy Taxi

Sega might finally be ready to show the new chapter of Crazy Taxi. After more than six years of absolute inactivity, the official social profiles of the historic arcade series have suddenly returned online, posting a very brief teaser that immediately captured the community's attention.

The video, lasting just five seconds, simply shows a taxi's light-up sign turning on. A minimal piece of content, but enough to fuel speculation about a possible imminent announcement related to the return of Sega's famous intellectual property.

Interest in the series remains very high despite the absence of new chapters for almost ten years. Crazy Taxi was born in 1999 in arcade game rooms and quickly became one of Sega's most iconic productions thanks to its immediate and frenetic style. The gameplay, based on racing against the clock to transport passengers, along with a strong visual identity and a punk soundtrack, helped make it one of the emblematic games of the era.

Is Crazy Taxi really about to return?

The success of the title quickly led to its release on Dreamcast in 2000, followed by conversions to numerous other platforms in the following years. However, the last episode of the series dates back to 2014, and since then the franchise has remained essentially inactive, while still being fondly remembered by fans of the Sega arcade era.

The possibility of a concrete return had already been hinted at the end of 2023 when Sega officially announced the relaunch of five historic IPs from the company: Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Crazy Taxi. On that occasion, the company explained that the new chapter would offer an innovative driving experience characterized by a strong sense of freedom and a setting capable of merging urban and natural elements.

Subsequently, Sega also confirmed that the new project would be a multiplayer open-world game, showing some preliminary gameplay sequences in a promotional video dedicated to the company's future projects. In light of the recent social media activity, many believe an official announcement is likely in the coming weeks, perhaps at the Summer Game Fest.
