Meta has launched a new app and no one noticed: it's called Forum and is similar to Reddit

Meta has quietly introduced a new application called Forum, without a real official announcement, but simply appearing in digital stores. The app was spotted by industry observers and is described as a space dedicated to the most relevant conversations for users, particularly designed for groups connected to Facebook.

According to what has emerged, the goal of the new platform would be to facilitate the search for answers and information by real people, somewhat approaching the community model typical of Reddit. However, unlike completely anonymous services, Forum necessarily requires a Facebook account for access. Once logged in, the user's profile and activity are directly transferred to the new app. It is still possible to use partially anonymized usernames, a feature already present in the main platform, but group administrators maintain the ability to see the real identities of users.

How does Forum work, Meta's new app?

The operation of the feed is different from that of Meta's classic social network. In this case, primarily content from groups the user is subscribed to is shown, rather than posts from friends or content selected by generic algorithms. Upon first access, the app also asks for specific preferences to customize what is displayed, which could lead to the viewing of content from other groups related to the stated interests.

Another important aspect is the bidirectional connection with the main platform: what is posted on Forum also appears on the main app and vice versa, allowing conversations to continue seamlessly between the two environments. This is not the first time Meta has attempted to create a separate app dedicated to groups. In the past, a similar solution was launched but subsequently closed in 2017. This new version, however, also integrates tools based on artificial intelligence. Among the AI functions stands out a system called Ask, designed to seek answers from various groups without having to consult them individually. According to the company itself, this is still a product in testing phase.
