MacBook Pro with OLED display coming closer, thanks to Samsung
The first MacBook Pro with an OLED display is getting closer to debut. Development work is progressing well.
Samsung Display, which will supply the OLED display for Apple's new laptop, has achieved a yield of over 90% for the panel production line and is almost ready to ship the first units for mass production. It is worth noting that, according to some rumors, the MacBook with OLED display could be called MacBook Ultra.
The debut is near
Samsung Display is expected to supply about 2 million OLED panel units per year to Apple for its new MacBook, which is anticipated to come in two variants, one with 14 inches and one with 16 inches.
The notebooks will utilize a Tandem OLED double-layer panel, with a solution similar to that successfully used in the iPad Pro.
The new MacBook Pro with OLED display is also expected to feature touch support. Based on initial information, Samsung might activate a second production line to increase supply capacity if Apple requests a number of panels exceeding expectations.
At the moment, Cupertino's plans are still not fully known. The MacBook Pro with OLED display could complement models with Liquid Retina displays, becoming even more premium variants (contributing to profit increases). Further details regarding Apple's new notebooks should emerge in the coming weeks. The commercial launch is scheduled between the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027.
