Panasonic LUMIX Celebrates 25 Years and Launches L10, the Compact Camera with Leica F1.7 Lens and 20.4 MP Sensor
Panasonic Celebrates 25 Years of LUMIX
Panasonic has chosen the 25th anniversary of its LUMIX brand to present three innovations at once: the new fixed-lens camera LUMIX L10, the update LUMIX Lab Ver. 3.0.0, and the new firmware Ver. 2.0 for LUMIX S9. A triple announcement that clearly highlights the direction of the Japanese brand: uncompromising optical quality in a compact body, with an increasingly integrated software ecosystem between camera and smartphone.
LUMIX L10: Leica Lens, 20.4 MP BSI Sensor, and Three Color Options
The LUMIX L10 is a fixed-lens camera developed in Osaka, equipped with a LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMILUX 24-75 mm (35mm equivalent) F1.7-2.8 lens, featuring a machined metal barrel and a manual aperture ring. The sensor is a 4/3 format BSI CMOS with a resolution of 20.4 MP, paired with the latest Panasonic image processing engine, capable of delivering rich textures, natural colors, and refined tonal reproduction. The Dynamic Range Boost function further enhances shadow detail in still photo mode.
For the 25th anniversary of LUMIX, the L10 will be available in three colors: Black, Silver, and Titanium Gold; the latter being a commemorative Special Edition with a gold-themed menu interface, a discreet rear logo visible only to the owner, and the option to mount separately purchasable screw-in shutter buttons. The Titanium Gold kit includes exclusive accessories: a titanium-colored automatic lens cover, a leather strap, and a dedicated lens cloth. The Special Edition will be mainly available through the official Panasonic online store, with varying availability by region. Those who purchase the L10 Titanium at launch will also receive an exclusive commemorative shutter button as a gift.
779-Point AF, 30 fps, and Optical Stabilization
In terms of performance, the LUMIX L10 integrates a Phase Hybrid AF system with 779 focus points and real-time AI recognition of eyes, faces, bodies, animals, vehicles, and moving subjects, including Urban Sports scenes. Continuous shooting speed reaches 30 fps with electronic shutter and about 11 fps with mechanical shutter, while the POWER O.I.S. optical stabilization ensures stable shots in low-light conditions and with close subjects. Macro AF focus is possible down to 3 cm at the wide-angle end of the lens.
OLED Viewfinder, Tiltable Monitor, and Multi-Aspect Shooting
Among other features, the LUMIX L10 includes a 2.36 million-dot OLED viewfinder and a 1.84 million-dot tiltable monitor, both optimized for vertical format, a choice made for those who produce content for social media. Another distinctive technical feature is the multi-aspect design: thanks to a larger sensor than the image circle of the lens, the camera maintains a consistent field of view in 4:3, 3:2, and 16:9 formats without altering the composition when changing aspect ratios. The total weight with battery and memory card is about 508 g, with a magnesium alloy front shell and a saffiano leather-textured finish.
REAL TIME LUT, L.Classic, and L.ClassicGold
The LUMIX color science is enhanced with two new Photo Styles inspired by film: L.Classic, featuring soft tones and subdued colors for a delicate atmosphere, and L.ClassicGold, characterized by amber highlights and nostalgic contrasts. The REAL TIME LUT function allows users to import custom LUTs directly into the camera and preview them while shooting, with the option to overlay up to two LUTs simultaneously. Through the LUMIX Lab app, it’s possible to generate LUTs from favorite images using Magic LUT, a feature based on color analysis via artificial intelligence.
LUMIX Lab Ver. 3.0.0: RAW Editing and Firmware Updates Via App
Another announcement today regards the LUMIX Lab Ver. 3.0.0 update, available for free starting May 20, 2026, at 03:00 CEST on major iOS and Android app stores. Key new features include support for RAW editing for more detailed and personalized modifications, Slow & Quick (S&Q) video editing directly from the smartphone, LUT creation with additional parameters like grain, color noise, sharpness, and noise reduction, and a renewed user interface. The most significant ecosystem innovation, however, is support for firmware updates directly from the app, eliminating the need to download files to a computer and manually copy them to a memory card. Camera models compatible in May 2026 include: DC-S1RM2, DC-S1M2, DC-S1M2ES, DC-S5M2, DC-S5M2X, DC-S9, DC-GH7, DC-G9M2, and DC-L10.
LUMIX S9 Ver. 2.0: Wired Connection and My Photo Style Via App
The firmware LUMIX S9 Ver. 2.0 will be the first to be distributed through the LUMIX Lab app and will be available in June 2026 through the LUMIX Global Customer Support website. The update adds full compatibility with LUMIX Lab Ver. 3.0.0, the ability to modify My Photo Style directly from the app, support for wired connection for faster and more stable transfers of images, LUTs, and settings compared to wireless, and the ability to apply LUTs with additional parameters directly in-camera on photos and videos using REAL TIME LUT. To proceed with the update via the app, it is necessary to have LUMIX Lab Ver. 3.0.0 installed and that the S9 firmware is already at version 1.9 or later.
Warranty and Availability
The LUMIX L10 is covered by the 5-year LUMIX warranty for purchases made by March 31, 2027, as outlined on the Panasonic Italy website.
