Fleet Manager Arrives, Object First's Cloud Solution for Remote Branch Backup

Object First expands the management of Ootbi backup storage with Fleet Manager, a cloud service designed for companies and service providers using the platform in Veeam environments distributed across multiple locations, data centers, or clients.

The need arises from a very pressing issue: backup infrastructures have become more complex, often distributed, and increasingly exposed to ransomware risks. In this scenario, it’s not enough to have protected copies; it is also essential to know if the systems hosting them are operational, if the available capacity is sufficient, if there are alerts to manage, and if any component is showing signs of degradation.

According to research by the Enterprise Strategy Group, 96% of ransomware attacks also target backup data. A poorly monitored backup can become a weak point precisely when it should guarantee recovery.

A Single Console for Distributed Backup Environments

Fleet Manager introduces a centralized dashboard from which all Object First clusters within an organization can be monitored. The console shows the status of multi-cluster deployments, storage usage, hardware health, and system alerts. Among the available features is Object First Honeypot, designed to detect anomalous behaviors or those potentially related to malicious activities.

However, the most relevant aspect concerns the access model: Fleet Manager does not have direct access to backup data. The platform only collects telemetry and infrastructure status information, without being able to modify, delete, or read protected content. The goal is to provide administrators with a unified view of Ootbi environments without introducing a new point of exposure for the data.

The service is built according to a zero trust approach and in line with the secure by design principles promoted by CISA. The Zero Access functionality also allows remote monitoring without requiring additional hardware or software and without granting the platform direct access to backups.

For service providers, Fleet Manager also offers multi-tenant visibility, useful for keeping different client environments separate and under control. For companies with multiple locations, the main advantage is the reduction of operational load: fewer consoles to monitor, less fragmentation in management, and greater speed in identifying capacity issues, interruptions, or anomalies.

"Resilience depends on being constantly aware of what happens in your backup environment. Fleet Manager offers companies the visibility and control needed to protect Veeam backup data, and service providers now have a new powerful tool to scale operations and deliver a consistent and reliable service to every client. The result is less complexity, reduced risks, and benefits for all," comments David Bennett, CEO of Object First.
