The 007 Sequel: First Light Will (Of Course) Depend on the Game's Success, Says IO Interactive CEO

The future of the video game saga dedicated to James Bond could directly depend on the commercial success of the first chapter. According to Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, the possibility of seeing a sequel to 007: First Light is not excluded, but it will be closely tied to the results achieved by the title once it is launched on the market.

In an interview, Abrak explained that the collaboration with Amazon, the current holder of the franchise rights through MGM, initially required an adaptation phase. The development team had to interface with new interlocutors, but the relationship quickly consolidated thanks to the appreciation shown by the partner towards the project, which was already in an advanced stage.

A key figure in this process has been the executive producer from MGM, who has been involved from the beginning and is considered a stable reference point throughout the production.

Will the sequel to 007: First Light be made? Here are further rumors.

Abrak emphasized that both the studio and Amazon share a common goal: to ensure high quality standards. This approach is also reflected in the evaluation of a potential sequel, which will not depend solely on sales but also on the audience's response. In particular, it will be crucial to understand whether the protagonist and the overall experience will manage to create a passionate community eager to continue following the franchise.

From a production standpoint, it has been noted that IO Interactive has already shown in the past, for example with the Hitman series, that they know how to develop sequels at a lower cost compared to initial chapters while maintaining a high level of quality. However, in this case as well, every future decision will be made with caution and attention to the results.

Also interesting are some behind-the-scenes stories shared by franchise art director Rasmus Poulsen, who recounted how unexpected and sometimes curious discussions arose during development among the parties involved. Seemingly secondary topics, such as Bond's preferences in cars, required in-depth meetings, while more significant decisions were often resolved more quickly. The game is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on May 27.
