Do You Need at Least 32 GB of RAM to Game on PC? Microsoft's Perspective

PC gaming is growing more and more and represents a central aspect for Microsoft and the future of Windows, especially considering the possible competition from Steam OS. However, the memory crisis is creating significant problems for the industry, particularly for users who intend to upgrade or build a new configuration from scratch. A document published and then removed by Microsoft confirms an increasingly evident aspect: it is ideal to have at least 32 GB of RAM for gaming.

Is 16 GB No Longer Enough?

Playing with 16 GB of RAM is becoming increasingly complicated, and even Microsoft seems to think so, despite the rising memory costs that have been observed in recent months, mainly due to the AI industry. The document published and then removed by the company highlighted how 16 GB is now the starting point for gaming, but the ideal configuration should have 32 GB of RAM in order to guarantee better performance and greater longevity.

A larger amount of RAM would be necessary especially for multitasking, allowing users to manage other applications alongside the game. Even video cards with little dedicated memory can benefit from increased system memory.

Microsoft's viewpoint, despite the document being later removed, is justifiable. In recent times, in fact, 16 GB of RAM starts to feel inadequate, especially when there is a need to run complex applications like the latest generation video games. Many software titles today list 32 GB of RAM among their minimum requirements.
