Gamma Silence: first contact and test ride of the new scooter S02 and the nanocar S04

We returned to the world of electric two-wheelers to closely discover Silence's entire offering, a European leader in sustainable urban mobility. The occasion was an exclusive event at the Vittoria Park in Brembate, where we could test the performance and versatility of various models, starting with the highly anticipated electric scooter S02.

Silence S02: the agile scooter for the city

The new Silence S02 presents itself as a compact and accessible model, ideal for those looking for an easy-to-ride vehicle, regardless of previous experience with internal combustion or electric engines. For this occasion, we also explain everything in video:

The structure of the S02 captures the brand's DNA, with the electric motor integrated directly into the rear wheel to optimize the central space dedicated to the battery. The seat, positioned just 77 cm off the ground, makes it particularly easy for shorter riders. Despite its compact dimensions, practicality has not been sacrificed:

  • Flat platform: offers decent foot space and ease of loading.
  • Underseat storage: although it cannot accommodate a full-face helmet, it provides sufficient space for a jet helmet—a remarkable achievement for this segment.
  • Display and equipment: a clear digital dashboard allows you to manage three riding modes and monitor key parameters.

Performance and Versions

The S02 is available in two variants to cover different user segments:

  • L1e version (equivalent to a 50cc): maximum speed of 45 km/h, a 2.9 kW motor, and a range reaching 152 km (WMTC cycle).
  • L3e version (equivalent to a 125cc): speeds up to 85 km/h, maximum power of 6.3 kW (4 kW nominal), and a range of 138 km.

On the road, the vehicle proves to be extremely dynamic thanks to its low center of gravity. In Sport mode, the acceleration is lightning-fast, typical of electric propulsion, perfect for quickly navigating through city traffic.

On the curves of the Vittoria Park, the Silence S02 confirmed what was anticipated in the press conference: ease of driving suitable even for beginners, agility, extreme quietness, and comfort in the riding position. With the more conservative mapping, one can feel that the power is significantly cut, although a certain snap from a standstill remains. Ascending to Sport mode, the scooter gains zest and becomes much more fun to ride.

In the few kilometers traveled on the test circuit, it was difficult to assess the accuracy of the declared data with real use, so for the actual range, we will have to wait for a test over several days, which we hope to conduct as soon as possible.

The ecosystem of the removable battery

The true technological heart of Silence is its standardized 5.6 kWh battery. Weighing 41 kg and IP67 certified, the battery features the patented "Fast & Easy" system: once detached, it instantly transforms into a trolley with integrated wheels and an extendable handle, facilitating transport home or to the office.

Reconnecting the unit to the scooter (or quadricycle) is equally simple, tilting the battery slightly, just like inserting a drawer into furniture, and at no point during the operations do you have to support the weight of the battery. Even hypothetically parking hundreds of meters away from the office, carrying the battery to the desk is incredibly easy.

The charging methods are three:

  1. On-board: connecting the scooter directly to the socket.
  2. Plug-in: charging the battery alone anywhere there is a Schuko socket, thanks to the integrated power supply that avoids the need to transport heavy accessories.
  3. Battery Station: Silence is implementing exchange stations where you can replace the discharged battery with a charged one in just 30 seconds.

From MotoGP to the road: Silence S01

During the event, we also admired the tested S01, including one with the spectacular livery dedicated to the Ducati MotoGP team. This is the version used in European paddocks by riders Pecco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez for quick movements between the pits and hospitality.

We didn't miss a ride on this model either, which even on the narrow streets of the Brembate track reveals its nature as the "big brother." The thrust is more decisive, the ride is even more aggressive and precise, definitely a product for those seeking the same ease of management but with an extra gear.

Silence S04: The nanocar with the same DNA

Silence is not only two wheels. The S04, referred to as a "nanocar" or electric quadricycle, brings the advantages of interchangeable batteries into the world of four wheels. It stands out from the crowd for several unique features:

  • Premium Interiors: the dashboard features soft-touch faux leather finishes and an ergonomic steering wheel that houses the selectors for driving modes (City and Sport).
  • Smart Space: the two seats are slightly offset longitudinally, allowing two adults to sit comfortably without their shoulders getting in the way.
  • Technology and Acceleration: measuring only 2.28 meters long, the S04 is incredibly agile. In Sport mode, the acceleration from 0-50 km/h is covered in about 3-4 seconds. The revolutionary element is the total interchangeability of batteries between the nanocar and the brand's scooters, ensuring unique flexibility in the market.

A customer could effectively own both vehicles, a scooter and a quadricycle, swapping batteries as needed or even using the scooter's battery as a second unit to increase the range of the top-of-the-line nanocar. Silence is the only brand that has chosen to have a battery that is always removable and completely standardized across all models in its range.

Prices and versions

The Silence range is positioned competitively, focusing on build quality (factory in the free zone of Barcelona) and the innovation of the charging system. The highlight of the event was certainly the S02, which is available at the following prices:

  • Silence S02 L1e: starting from €3,280.
  • Silence S02 L3e: starting from €3,790 (approximately €3,990 with optional ABS).

These prices can be further reduced thanks to state incentives (Ecobonus), making the switch to electric mobility even more accessible. The combination of attractive design, ease of use, and the trolley battery ecosystem makes Silence one of the most interesting players in the current urban mobility landscape.
