A Galaxy Book with Android: Samsung Believes in Aluminium OS and Is Working on the Project
Samsung is working on a new Galaxy Book. The model in question will differ from the rest of the South Korean company's notebook range due to its operating system. There will be no Windows 11, but the laptop will feature Android 17 and One UI. This is one of the first projects with Aluminium OS, the new desktop operating system based on Android, with which Google aims to close the chapter on ChromeOS and look to the future, expanding its product ecosystem.
An Unprecedented Model
For now, details about Samsung's new model are limited. The company is reportedly working on three versions of its notebook: an entry-level model, a mid-range version, and a flagship. It's unclear what differences in specifications will exist between the three versions of the Galaxy Book with Android.
From a software perspective, Samsung is expected to integrate an evolution of DeX into the system to offer improved productivity and, more generally, ensure a "laptop-like" user experience rather than a tablet one, although touch controls will likely still be supported.
The goal could be to complement the MacBook Neo, offering a fast notebook with excellent battery life, making it the ideal product for students and those who use a computer for basic tasks. With its MacBook Neo, Apple is recording very positive results, and Samsung could leverage this trend.
Further details may emerge during Google I/O, scheduled for the coming weeks. The Galaxy Book with Android could debut by the end of the year, barring delays related to memory shortages.
