OnePlus Merges with Realme? Doubts Grow About the Global Future of the Brand

The smartphone sector might witness a significant change: OnePlus is reportedly officially merging with Realme, according to recent rumors from China. This operation would represent another step in the internal reorganization of the group at a time when signs of difficulty are emerging for the OnePlus brand on a global scale.

In recent months, indeed, rumors have increased about a possible downsizing of OnePlus's international activities. Specifically, there has been talk of a closure of operations in Europe starting in the spring of 2026, accompanied by layoffs and a review of the business strategy in the region. The company itself has confirmed that it is engaged in evaluating its future in European markets.

According to information disseminated by sources such as Digital Chat Station, the merger between OnePlus and Realme would concern both global and domestic operations in China. The two entities would be brought together under a new structure defined as the "sub-product center," aiming to optimize resources and better coordinate product development.

Additional elements and details about the possible integration between OnePlus and Realme: Marketing and customer service functions would also be merged, while the resulting teams would report to Pete Lau, a historical figure linked to OnePlus. A key aspect of the new strategy would lie in reusing product lines, suggesting greater sharing of technologies and designs between the two brands.

This evolution fits into a broader context: OnePlus has long operated as a sub-brand of OPPO, while Realme has been integrated into the same structure since early 2026. The merger between the two brands thus appears to be a natural extension of a consolidation process.

Despite this, the international future of OnePlus remains uncertain. Although Realme maintains a presence in several global markets, including Europe, it is not active in the United States, where OnePlus has instead built a user base over the years. Moreover, no new devices aimed at the global market have been announced in recent months, further fueling speculation.
