GeForce RTX 5070 12 GB Laptop, Framework introduces the module: 50% more memory, price nearly doubled
Framework has announced the new Graphics Module dedicated to the Laptop 16, which introduces the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 with 12 GB of VRAM. The card, presented a few days ago by NVIDIA, is identical to the already available market variant, distinguished solely by the memory capacity in areas where the amount of VRAM becomes critical.
The new proposal, in fact, maintains exactly the same specifications as the already known version with 8 GB of VRAM, except for the expansion of video memory, which increases to 12 GB, a 50% increase. This means that the chip offers no performance difference but provides greater capacity for contexts such as AI, rendering, or high-resolution gaming.
NVIDIA officially announced the 12GB version of their RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, and we're happy to share that we have a new Graphics Module for Framework Laptop 16 with it. This is our 3rd Graphics Module, and we're living up to the promise of graphics upgradeability in a laptop!

The most significant factor is clearly the price. The previous module with RTX 5070 8 GB was offered at $699, while the new RTX 5070 12 GB version comes to $1,199. This represents a 72% increase for a card that is essentially identical, except for the memory size.
Framework has obviously justified the price with the ongoing crisis. The shortage of memory has inevitably impacted the GPU segment, which has seen prices gradually rise and production decrease.
Framework has already opened pre-orders for the new module, with shipments expected to start in June. For those using the Laptop 16 and in need of more VRAM, the new module is undoubtedly a solution to consider. Unfortunately, the company will inevitably have to deal with a lower purchasing propensity.
