This isn’t the first time that the worlds of football and manga have brushed against each other—just think of the historic bond between Japan and productions like Captain Tsubasa—but Konami's approach for this operation, eFootball x NARUTO, appears particularly structured and aimed at merging the technical characteristics of real players with the fantastic imagery created by Masashi Kishimoto.
Ninja and Champions: A Union That’s Not Just Aesthetic
The heart of the initiative, active from April 30 to May 14, lies in the introduction of pairs of "special players" representing true conceptual crossovers. The highlights of this operation are Naruto Uzumaki × Neymar Jr. and Sasuke Uchiha × Takefusa Kubo. While Kubo's selection seems almost obvious given the nationality and crystal-clear talent of the Real Sociedad player, Neymar Jr.'s inclusion confirms the Brazilian's historic bond with the Konami brand and his well-known passion for Japanese pop culture.
But it's not just about names on paper. Konami has implemented specific changes to the game engine to celebrate the event. When using these special versions of players, activating spectacular shots triggers unique visual effects that mimic the most famous ninja techniques from the series. Players will be able to see Neymar unleash the power of the Art of Wind: Rasenshuriken during a shot at goal or Kubo zapping the opposing goalkeeper with Sasuke's iconic Chidori. The celebrations have also been customized, allowing modern football champions to replicate the gestures and poses that have made Naruto a global phenomenon with over 250 million copies sold.
eFootball x NARUTO: In-Game Events and Customization
As is customary for live-service titles, the collaboration doesn't stop at just player packs. During the campaign period, the eFootball servers will host a series of themed events that allow players to obtain special items and stadium decorations for free. The goal is to transform the entire gaming experience into a tribute to the Leaf Village, with stadium choreographies inspired by Naruto Shippuden that promise to make the atmosphere of the matches distinctly different from the usual raw realism of football simulation.
