Resident Evil Requiem: here's what players prefer between first and third person
Resident Evil Requiem has recorded a great success, convincing both the public and critics and achieving significant numbers in terms of copies sold. Regarding player preferences, Akishi Nakanishi, the game's director, provided some insights regarding the use of first-person and third-person perspectives in the game. Data analysis results from Capcom highlight a clear choice by users, in some cases at least.
What do users prefer?
From the information provided, based on internal data, about 90% of the parts featuring Leon are experienced in third person, while the parts with Grace see the use of first person in 60% of cases and third person in 40%. The percentages seem clear, but, in reality, player preferences are linked to several factors.
However, there are noticeable differences regarding the platform used and the play region. For instance, in Japan and Asia, there is a tendency to prefer third person, while on PC, first person is the preferred choice among users.
Capcom's decision to adopt a dual approach seems to have convinced everyone, yielding excellent results for the game worldwide. The game developer may consider implementing such a solution again, both for the Resident Evil series and for other future projects. Requiem could, therefore, represent a turning point for the series, with a return to the past but also a look towards the future.
