GPU, goodbye GALAX: parent company Palit takes full control of the brand and global operations
The graphics card market sees a significant exit: GALAX, a historic partner of NVIDIA, has announced the cessation of its global operations. As reported by Wccftech, Palit Microsystems will take over the brand and become the exclusive responsible body for all activities, including support and warranties. Palit Microsystems, by the way, has been the parent company of the brand since 2008, albeit previously with operational freedom.
According to the official announcement, the organizational structure of GALAX has been closed down, and the entire global team has been laid off. Palit will directly manage every aspect of the brand, including customer support and RMA, ensuring continuity for holders of already purchased products.
The decision seems to stem from supply chain constraints linked to the growing demand for hardware related to artificial intelligence. The AI boom, which is consuming a significant part of global production capacity, has increasingly complicated the sustainability of operations for some brands focused on the consumer market. Zotac had predicted this.
Founded in 1994 in Hong Kong as Galaxy Microsystems, GALAX has established itself in various regions, including Asia-Pacific, the Americas, and South America, with a particularly strong presence in Brazil. In Europe, its role has mostly been covered by the KFA2 brand.
Notable products from GALAX include the HOF (Hall of Fame) series cards, designed for overclocking enthusiasts and characterized by high-level PCB and cooling solutions. Over the years, GALAX has built a solid reputation in the enthusiast domain.
GALAX's exit, following EVGA's departure in previous years, represents another signal of the transformation underway in the hardware sector, increasingly influenced by external dynamics but significantly impacting the consumer market. With Palit now in charge, the brand may continue to exist formally, but without an independent structure. We shall see.
