Valve, here is the new Steam Controller: release date, price and full specifications

Valve has officially unveiled all the details of the new Steam Controller, a product anticipated last November, confirming the release date and price: the device will be available starting from May 4, 2026 at a cost of 99€. After weeks of rumors, the announcement finally clarifies the features of a peripheral designed to fully integrate into the Steam ecosystem.

The controller is designed to work seamlessly with PC, laptop, Steam Deck, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame, offering a consistent and highly customizable experience. The main goal remains to make games traditionally played with a mouse and keyboard, such as strategy, management, and shooting titles, playable with the pad.

From a hardware perspective, the new Steam Controller introduces next-generation magnetic thumbsticks based on TMR technology, designed to eliminate wear issues and improve accuracy. These thumbsticks also support capacitive touch, expanding control possibilities. The renowned trackpads return, fully customizable, capable of functioning as sliders, virtual menus, or quick selection systems.

Supporting these features is an advanced 6-axis gyroscope, enabling aim and movement control by tilting the controller. The real novelty, however, is the Grip Sense system, capacitive sensors integrated into the grips that detect hand contact. This technology allows, for example, to "reset" the position of the gyroscope simply by releasing the grip, simulating the behavior of a mouse when lifted off the mat.

The controller also includes four fully configurable rear buttons, ideal for keeping thumbs on thumbsticks or trackpads at all times. Haptic feedback is handled by multiple motors distributed between grips and trackpads, enhancing immersion. A distinctive element is the Puck, included in the package. This accessory functions both as a 2.4 GHz wireless receiver and a magnetic charging base. The system ensures very low latency, about 8 ms, and supports up to four controllers simultaneously.

The device is also compatible with Bluetooth and wired USB-C connections. Battery life is another strong point: the integrated 8.39 Wh battery allows for over 35 hours of use. Moreover, Valve has designed the controller with particular attention to repairability. The device can be easily opened by removing a few screws, and the components, including the battery, are easily replaceable. To support this philosophy, Valve will collaborate with iFixit to make replacement parts available after launch.
