GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop with 12 GB debuts: NVIDIA increases memory by 50%

NVIDIA has announced a new configuration for the GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop: a variant equipped with 12 GB of GDDR7 memory. This is a long-awaited update that has emerged in recent months through several rumors related to models from manufacturers like ASUS, Lenovo, and MSI, now officially confirmed.

The new version does not replace the existing 8 GB model available on the market but complements it with the aim of expanding the options available for OEM partners and responding to the growing demand in the gaming and AI notebook segment.

"In response to the high demand for GeForce RTX laptops and the limited availability of memory, this new variant will allow partners to offer a wider range of devices, maximizing the availability of configurations for consumers," says the company led by Jensen Huang.

From a technical standpoint, the GPU remains unchanged. The RTX 5070 Laptop continues to be based on the Blackwell architecture with the GB206 chip, offering 4608 CUDA cores, 144 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. The increase in memory is made possible by the adoption of 24 Gb (3 GB) GDDR7 modules, instead of the traditional 16 Gb (2 GB) modules. This allows for an upgrade from 8 to 12 GB while keeping the 128-bit bus unchanged. The bandwidth thus remains steady at 384 GB/s, with no changes from the previous configuration.

The 50% increase in VRAM does not directly translate to changes in the GPU's computational power but can impact scenarios such as high-resolution gaming and high-quality texture loads, and ultimately, tasks related to artificial intelligence.

The new configuration also reduces the memory gap compared to the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop, which offers 12 GB as standard, while maintaining marked differences in bandwidth and computing resources.

The first notebooks equipped with the 12 GB RTX 5070 Laptop are expected to hit the market soon, with models from major manufacturers. Regarding prices, a slight increase over the 8 GB models is plausible, while still remaining significantly below the solutions based on the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop.
