Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe Loses About 50 Developers and May Be Delayed to the Second Half of 2027
The development of Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe continues to be shrouded in uncertainty, with new rumors speaking of significant changes within the team. According to some sources, about 50 developers have been removed from the project, a decision aimed at keeping production costs under control.
The title, not yet officially announced by Ubisoft, is currently expected for June 2027, but a delay to the end of the same year cannot be ruled out. The changes to the development team may indeed influence the timeline, making a holiday season launch more likely.
One of the most relevant aspects concerns the creative direction. Jean Guesdon has taken over as creative director, replacing Clint Hocking. According to rumors, Guesdon has decided to eliminate some initially planned "magical" elements, steering the project towards a vision more consistent with the rest of the series. In the meantime, game director Benoit Richer has also left the team, contributing to a period of significant internal reorganization.
Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe and Ubisoft's Projects
The recent changes come after the cancellation of another Ubisoft project, known as Project Alterra, inspired by titles like Animal Crossing. The developers involved were not laid off but transferred to the so-called "Interproject team", with the obligation to find a new assignment within three months to avoid the risk of redundancy.
Despite these changes, some sources indicate that the development of Codename Hexe is proceeding positively. However, the reduction in staff suggests a more cautious strategy on Ubisoft's part, aimed at avoiding budget overruns and optimizing available resources.
At the moment, the publisher has not yet officially shown the game or confirmed a release date. Recently, attention has shifted to other projects, such as Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, a remake of the 2013 chapter, set for July 9. In this context, Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe remains one of the most mysterious titles in the saga.
