Apple Prepares a Redesign for the iPhone Line: New Design for the 20th Anniversary?

In Apple’s future, there’s not just the iPhone Ultra, the first foldable in Cupertino's lineup. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iPhone line, the company is indeed working on a brand new model that could represent a turning point, similar to what happened with the iPhone X. Everything revolves around a new design, specifically a brand new OLED panel. Let’s summarize the news regarding this project that has emerged online in recent days.

A Completely New Display

The first information about the anniversary iPhone comes from the insider Digital Chat Station, a source that is always very well-informed about Apple-related information. The display of the new model is expected to feature a curved display on all four sides. The curvature is intended to be subtle, aiming to create a unique effect for the lineup.

Apple is developing this solution together with Samsung Display, which will be the supplier of the panel and, therefore, will be tasked with developing the technology required by the Cupertino company. The OLED panel might be thinner than standard models, eliminating the polarizer layer. The solution in development is anticipated to make the panel brighter and more efficient.

Apple may not be able to complete the development of Face ID under the display in time for the launch of the anniversary iPhone, which is set to arrive in September 2027. Consequently, Dynamic Island will make a return, likely in a smaller size.

Furthermore, the new model is expected to feature a redesign for the back cover, with a design different from that adopted by the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, which will also be echoed in the new 18 Pro and Pro Max models.
